Summer is here in Hong Kong, and so the Florentine Summer must be equally oppressive. In a few more weeks I will fly out again for that beautiful city, again to meet with so many great artisans and personalities from this industry I am involved in.

It is easy to become used to the lives we lead and the work we do. It is all we do, 6 days a week, and what we think about even on our days free. We form friendships with other like minded people, and so continue to sink deeper and deeper in to our industries, it becomes everyday. We can easily forget what made our hearts race once upon a time.

Sometimes I need to remind myself, though, that what I do is work, no doubt, but also passion. I have loved it since I began some seventeen years ago. That I can make my living doing it, that I can meet my heroes and sit down to break bread with them, that is a gift. I am not particularly talented, and for sure I am not particularly smart, yet I have landed in a life I could not have dreamed of when I first laid leather to concrete as a teenager looking for a first job.

There is nothing mundane about that.
